Rain of Fear is the expansion my guild was progressing through when I returned to the game in 2014. A guildy had me follow them all over the place to complete the portal quests so I could enter the zones through the portals in Shard's Landing. Rain of Fear was a great expansion for returning players. It provided some familiar zones and allowed me to catch up quickly. The group missions were tons of fun. One of the first things I did with others in the expansion was the first Chelsith group mission. I got beat up by those snakes being an undergeared low level.
My guild was already past the Chapterhouse and Xorbb raids and never really returned to them, so I didn't get to really experience them until later when levels and gear allowed them to become much easier. However, I did get to enjoy our progression through the later raids... Chelsith (really enjoyed that one), Plane of Shadow, Glimpse and the minis, and the second Heart of Fear raid. We never got the opportunity to attempt the final raid as a casual raiding guild, but it was quite an accomplishment for the guild to get through the second Heart of Fear raid.
I was able to raid the lower tier raids quite a bit through raiding opportunities available via a raiding alliance and then later public server raids. They were a lot slower moving, but after years of not playing, I was having a blast. A guild member also ran corrupted ToV raids on Sundays, which was a lot of fun as well. I really liked the Shard's Landing raid — very cool concept.
I love the bard class weapon from the expansion. The breastplates also had a unique clicky, which we haven't seen an upgrade to since; The bard breastplates have a defensive clicky — useful for bards that like to do things outside of groups. I love all the clickies they added with the expansion. Farming The Chief's Influence from Chief Ry`Gorr reminded me of the earlier years camping fun items by myself. It was a nice throwback, as it allowed me to replace my Torque of the Wyrmlord from Emperor Ssraeshza. Another item was the bind sight clicky; I still use it all the time rather than memorize my bind sight song.
This expansion had so many unique and fun items available as drops, rewards from progression, and achievements — definitely reminded me of the early years. I miss that kind of stuff.
