As of May 1st, 2023 on Live servers you can't do this quest simulaneously on multiple characters. When you get to the West location and defeat the mad scrykin the quest turns your clickable pearl into a Cleansed Siren Pearl on every character in the group. This stops all but one character from being able to finish the quest since they didn't get the intermediate updates.

If everyone in the group clicks their pearls underwater at the same time, they all get the credit for killing and the converted pearl so it does work. You just cannot click only one, then kill the 2 spawns: you need to all click at the same time.
