November 23, 2019 - EQ Server Up/Down Discord Alerts
« on: November 23, 2019, 04:25:18 AM »
Today we added a new feature to our Discord channel. Our bot now allows users to self assign themselves one or more Roles that correspond with the servers they play on, or wish to receive alerts for. So for example, if you'd like to be informed when the Bristlebane server goes offline, or comes back online, you would self assign yourself the "Bristlebane" role, and when the bot detects Bristlebane has went down or came up, it will send an @Bristlebane message to the #server-status-changes channel, which will trigger a Discord alert for you.

This is handy on patch days when you want to be alerted when your server comes online so you can start playing! It's also nice to know if your server crashes while you are away.

To use this feature, first you will need to be a user in our Discord server. If you don't have Discord, you can download it at https://discord.com
Setup is pretty easy and self explanatory. Once you have an account, Discord installed, and are online, you can click the following link which will invite you to the EQResource Discord Server: https://discord.gg/AwbHXak

Now that you are a member of the EQResource Discord Server, you can navigate to the #server-role-requests channel. Here you will see a couple numbered lists with corresponding server names. Find the number corresponding to the server you wish to receive alerts for, then click the small version of the number at the bottom of the list (these are called reactions). If everything was successful (and our bot hasn't crashed) the bot will spam a message acknowledging your newly assigned role. If you wish to remove a role, simply click the corresponding reaction again, and the bot will remove your role.

If you have any issues feel free to discuss them in the #general-chat channel!
