Don't think so, no, the intention was to turn in ring to flip to other side, so had to pre-plan rings, it's weird

Sword crossguard at least requires you to click on a barrel.  I should also be noted that the sword grip appeared to be given by a phoenix courier that flies from the mountain.  So there is a delay from activating the phoenix and receiving the grip - by a significant amount of time.

After turning in the sword the next step is to Hail Elmara and go through text.  (like before turning in the sword).  But I can't get her to give me any text.  She just lowers her eyes and attempts to avoid eye contact.  What's the phrase for the next step after the sword is rebuilt at the forge?

Think after getting the 2 pieces its just a Hail then use the anvil behind her (by clicking on it)?

If you mean before getting those pieces believe it is "What's your penultimate task"

The steps to obtain the sword pieces seem to be very specific and can be a little annoying. I believe the exact location for the Grip (#2) is /waypoint 270.25, -1106.64, 195.49 which is on the forge side of the stack of boxes and the exact location for the crossguard is /waypoint 300.19, -1026.35, 195.49 on the forge side of a stack of barrels.
