Rain of Fear is one of my favorite expansions, probably top 3! The Beta for this expansion was unusually fun, for some reason.

This is the expansion when I took over raid leading for a previous guild, Brotherhood of the Spider, and lead our guild to finishing RoF in first place on The Rathe server.

I especially enjoyed the staggered content. In the end, it allowed for an expansion with much more content than the normal full release, once a year, cycle. I know many people did not like this staggered release cycle, however.

RoF raids were some of the first that I attended when I came back to the game and joined Heroes on Luclin. I particularly enjoyed Velishan raids and having special spell sets saved for that encounter-after being told to keep my ice nukes to myself!

By far RoF was one of my favorites as well. I just remember needign double invis for most of the zones to get to the epicenter. Getting my Glyph aug was actually adrenaline pumping and the final raid for that zone between Xaric, the adds and having Cazic thule pop up again was probably one of the best raids Ive done with my guild

Favorite thing has to be the clicks from raid currency. Specifically the delicious twincast clicks. Actually started doing these raids again to farm currency for them.

During RoF I started from scratch with a wizard on Vox and managed to work from a new character with nothing into raiding with Pain and Glory. I'm back to playing Beastlord, but will always remember how fun it was to play the Wizard through and the friends I met while doing it.

The best part of this expansion for me was finding the "hidden" Deepblade camp in Sep. West. I ground out tons of xp there preparing Bobsmith for raiding.

My favorite part was the main hub of Shard's Landing with all the portals and easy access to the zones once you completed the attuning tasks.

And of course finally obtaining Grelleth's Seal, even if it was well after the expansion was still in era it was still a glorious moment in EQ!

Love the DE models, and taking them out. ;D
My "Oh s***!" moment was killing Roon or Shoon and finding a tower shield raid chase loot! Thought it was a mistake and looked over my shoulder out of fear someone was going to spirit it away.

Fond memories of RoF.

This was probably the last "great" expansion EQ received. While it had some recycled content, it was in places that made sense, with long questlines and strong themes. Each zone felt like its own compartmentalized story, while still fitting within the overarching narrative for the expansion. They also had distinct tiers and a (maybe somewhat overused) progressive gearing system that was easy to follow and didn't require extra combines or tradeskills, which is always nice for returning players.

Oh and that raid content swoon. I still encourage guilds to hit RoF as a training ground at least once if they're brand new to the game. It's a great place to break a new raid force on mechanics. It's been neutered a bit at 110, and was already showing its age during EoK, but it's still not a terrible starting point for a group of newly minted raiders.

It'll probably always hold a special place, for me, because it's where I picked up raiding after returning to Everquest on the Test server. If it wasn't for RoFs easy-to-follow difficulty curve, it's very likely Test would have never seen raids return to the server. They gave me a chance to learn the ropes as a raid leader and start to understand how modern-day EQ raids worked.

We'll probably never see an expansion as solid as RoF, but at least it's still fun to go back and try this content at 110!

Loved Raid of Fear and all the T1 zones with attunable items. Got many drops for guildies and have run many grouping events there where we gathered items and rolled on them all together for those who needed them. Was fun seeing Kael again too!.

My favorite thing about RoF is how accessible it was to returning players at the time. I came back to regular servers during RoF, and was really lucky I did. Shard's Landing is the perfect "welcome to the expansion" zone, with easy quests and NPCs.

I got a kick out of the chasm that leads to Sepulcher, that was awesome, and I also enjoyed the purple crystal being "fallen down" in there, and then being repaired as your server advances the expansion.

The raid content was very challenging, I think the most times I've wiped on a raid in recent memory is the Chapterhouse event. The group content was excellent as well. It was a good experience for me as a returning player to do the explore tasks to "attune" the portals to each zone. It reminded me how beautiful this game is. I also really love the collectibles system.

My favorite place in RoF is definitely the lava dragons room in Breeding Grounds. 8)

I was still on a break when RoF came out but quickly did all the tasks and missions when I returned. I loved all the purple (it's my favorite color). The zones were beautiful and I had a lot of fun maxing the stone of the landing aug.

I missed this RoF content when I was on break, too. Of course, I missed everything. So, when I started working there for all things I need, it was so much fun and took a LOT of time to complete quests. I had to get help to completing quests, missions, and challengers. Not a lot of people realizes that you CAN obtain aug AND SL port ring clicky. There are three ways to get them: Complete Crystal Circle Builder quest, Challenger of the Heart of Fear (group challenger), or Vanquisher of the Heart of Fear... A lot of people got mindblown by this when I clicked both items. :))

I loved the zones and the spread out mobs - plenty of camps
loved the quests had the feal of the older zones for me just at that new level.
Love the raids except for Chapterhouse which caused issues for my guild trying to get to valley raids.

The absolute best thing about Rain of Fear is the "Refurbished Puppet" Quest. You battle puppets in East Freeport! And, who does not like a pretty halfling in your entourage?

-chapterhaus shroud crashes
-that one xorbb group named eyeball that had really strange mechanics
-the chelsith raid with the crowd throwing garbage into the arena
-kiting around a buttload of adds in heart of fear 3 raid

One of my favourite aspects of RoF is the new Kael zone

It really brought me back to my early days raiding and an embarrassing moment

I was in a new guild and on my first raid in Kael.....

I died on the raid and suddenly realized I had forgotten that I was bound in Vox's buff hall from the night before

What happened next was a spiral of deaths and multiple levels lost until we were able to time me logging back in with the cleric rez in Kael

Was the single most embarrassing moment in my EQ life, but such a silly story too

The portals were awesome in Shard's Landing. I also appreciated the aggro meter they added to help me with casting aggro so I didn't get hammered on in raids. ;D

Doing the questline for the augment from the npc at the Ring near the City of bronze zone line. having to jump down the huge crack in the middle of the zone in shards landing actually made my belly go when doing it as I wasn't sure if I was going to land ok or go splat...
And being a Barb Warrior with no lev ect that's scary stuff.

Aggro Meter. Can't wait until that's open on Phini.

Some people don't care for them, but I always enjoy the zone revamps. Going back and seeing old places again. I like that.

With the guild I was in, in attempt to beat the big old eye in valley of King Xorbb. I think we were in a endless death spiral. When this raid was called, we all knew it would be a experience loss evening, except 1 time when somehow we did things correctly.

The best part about RoF was getting to go back and do it after coming back from a long hiatus from the game. I quit at the beginning of VoA and didn't come back until TBM, so RoF was a complete mystery. It was fun getting to explore the zones by myself.

This was theeee best expansion so far, it will probably forever be my favorite. It had so many zones, and all of the zones were beautiful. I think this was the last xpac that they put thought into all of the graphics. All of the quests were fun, and killing names. The best part, minus the graphics, is this is when they introduced collectibles. That are still my favorite part of the game, minus raiding.

Rain of Fear is the expansion my guild was progressing through when I returned to the game in 2014. A guildy had me follow them all over the place to complete the portal quests so I could enter the zones through the portals in Shard's Landing. Rain of Fear was a great expansion for returning players. It provided some familiar zones and allowed me to catch up quickly. The group missions were tons of fun. One of the first things I did with others in the expansion was the first Chelsith group mission. I got beat up by those snakes being an undergeared low level.

My guild was already past the Chapterhouse and Xorbb raids and never really returned to them, so I didn't get to really experience them until later when levels and gear allowed them to become much easier. However, I did get to enjoy our progression through the later raids... Chelsith (really enjoyed that one), Plane of Shadow, Glimpse and the minis, and the second Heart of Fear raid. We never got the opportunity to attempt the final raid as a casual raiding guild, but it was quite an accomplishment for the guild to get through the second Heart of Fear raid.

I was able to raid the lower tier raids quite a bit through raiding opportunities available via a raiding alliance and then later public server raids. They were a lot slower moving, but after years of not playing, I was having a blast. A guild member also ran corrupted ToV raids on Sundays, which was a lot of fun as well. I really liked the Shard's Landing raid — very cool concept.

I love the bard class weapon from the expansion. The breastplates also had a unique clicky, which we haven't seen an upgrade to since; The bard breastplates have a defensive clicky — useful for bards that like to do things outside of groups. I love all the clickies they added with the expansion. Farming The Chief's Influence from Chief Ry`Gorr reminded me of the earlier years camping fun items by myself. It was a nice throwback, as it allowed me to replace my Torque of the Wyrmlord from Emperor Ssraeshza. Another item was the bind sight clicky; I still use it all the time rather than memorize my bind sight song.

This expansion had so many unique and fun items available as drops, rewards from progression, and achievements — definitely reminded me of the early years. I miss that kind of stuff.

I really enjoyed working through this expansion. Dragons, rats, pigs, alarans, giant ants, floating eye balls....what's NOT to like? Quests were long and tough, but enjoyable. Visually - still one of my favorite expansions in the game.

I still have memories of falling off the tree in Evantil. You have a long time to think about how you screwed up...and to read the chatter from your friends as they made fun of you for falling. I still hate that tree.

My favorite part of RoF was the lore went straight from last expansion.. and how it was released.. in parts.. we met Luclin!!! Best god in the game.. considering I am on her server.. tje weapon models.. the overall zones were beautiful... and well put together.. they just took old all the best old world zones and added so much more to them
