From what we observed, shaded assassin will not spawn if someone in group has quest, but is not at that step. So, have them drop group and then say "the residue" to spawn it at Darius. It attacks immediately.

I found you can just keep saying The Residue until the shade spawns

Steps 2, 3 and 6 can be done w/o having to be at the task so u can kill and loot the 2 items

In a group with mercenaries. Had to suspend them and re-prompt with the dialogue to get the shaded assassin to spawn.
